A Face Lift and the Pillsbury Dough Boy....

Today truly is a new day because, well, yesterday was Friday and today's Saturday (bah-dah ching!). No really, I am excited about my new blog skin (or design, whatever). My posts were long overdue for a webopractic adjustment. The light tan colored background was a bit unsettling to my vision over long periods of time.Thankfully, I have great friends who keep up with my posts and make suggestions (shout out to my girl Ngozi). Keeping things in perspective though, I have a considerable amount of work to do with my pictures, but I am encouraged to do it. When I see the work of other artists and remember where I want my skill level to be, I get right to work. There were two drawings I did in less than a couple of hours for some students of mine. I will post those over the next few days. Until then, I will draw and dream! Take care.

PS The Pillsbury Dough Boy will be one of the drawings.

Caricature Attempt...

Ok! Aside from the fact that this guy looks like someone just punched him in the eye, I think this is a pretty good start to learning how to draw caricatures. Caricatures are by far my favorite kind of art because the viewer has to put some effort into figuring out whose face was drawn. When the viewer gets past the comically distorted features he is pleasantly surprised with the realistic touch the picture creates. For example, you guys might or might not recognize my caricature because not everyone enjoys poker. I also tried to make his cheeks extra rosey and puffy and his ears bigger than normal. This poker champion came from Canada to win the World Poker Championship in Las Vegas in 2010. His name is Jonathan Duhamel.
Yeah I know! Don't make me laugh. I tried!

STUDENT HELP SECTION - SCIENCE AND MATH ANSWERS HERE!!!

Parents, students, and teachers, I realized something just today. However, what I realized may surprise you. It may even cause you to ask the question, "He really did not know that?" What I realized is that all of my life experiences have led me to this blog posting right here! This posting is especially set aside for students who need help academically. While my goal is still to create cartoons that entertain, I would not be living up to the title of this blog if I did not in some way address the immediate educational needs of kids and young adults. THEREFORE, STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12 MAY SUBMIT THEIR MATH AND SCIENCE QUESTIONS AT ANYTIME.

10 Figures A Day...

If there is one thing I have learned over time, it is to follow your sudden urges. They always lead you toward what you most desire. As you know already, my desire is to become a world-renowned cartoonist. Well, today my sudden urge showed me how to begin. Friday night I was online browsing, when I had this strong flash of thought about how to become a better artist. I was watching a youtube vlog on ground planes and lines of action and this exciting woosh passed through my body. Right on the heels of that feeling was the thought of creating 10 stick figure poses on paper per day. When I entertained that idea, I began to see how this would improve my drawing control, proportion, mental creativity and so  much more. So today I started my first 10 drawings.

I am excited to see how drawing #100 looks, because I will have improved so much by then!

Caricature of Jonathan Duhamel....

This is my first attempt at drawing a caricature of a real person. I was browsing http://www.msn.com/ when I saw a story about people who recently became millionaires. I saw an old couple who had struck oil to make their millions and said, "Man they would look cool  as caricatures." Now you may ask, "Why did you not draw the elderly couple?" I thought about it. I did. Then I thought about my temper and how I destroy things when what I plan doesn't quite turn out how I want it to. Ultimately, the detail in that picture redirected to me choose the one you see above. Anyway, this guy won the World Poker Championship in 2010. His name is Jonathan Duhamel.
